Neonatal jaundice: At 2nd or 3rd day of life baby may develop jaundice(yellowish coloration of skin) The baby is otherwise healthy .It becomes peak at 3rd day of life and resolves before 10 days in term (37 completed weeks ) and 14 days in preterm baby . Consult your doctor for advices
Napkin rash or diaper rash: This is a localized skin lesion which occurs due to irritation following prolong exposure of alkaline urine and feces in the diaper .The area looks red, glazed, fissured or even eroded.
The condition responds when the child is nursed without napkin for 2-3 days. If this is not possible other measures to be taken as follows:
Use soft muslin napkin rather than abrasive toweling napkin
Avoid occlusive plastic pants
Frequent napkin changes
Allow diaper area to dry, leaving diapers off as much as practical.

Infantile colic : It is manifested as a frequent spell of inconsolable crying, usually occurs in the evening time .It occurs within a few weeks of life in a well thriving child. It usually subsides spontaneously after 3 months of life. It affects 20% of all babies, and equally affects both boys and girls.
